"I am a designer, drummer and gear maniac."

As a sound tinkerer, I’m permanently searching for perfect sound. As a student I worked in a specialist shop for musical instruments, with backstage access to premium products, and a close exchange with musicians and manufacturers. At weekends I’d be touring with my bands, or in our studio in the drum room: height adjustable ceilings, specialized noise absorbing panels, twenty ambient and specialized drum microphones. With ‘SubKick‘ I have created a microphone that captures the typical dynamic range and the very low frequencies of the bass drum.

A breakthrough begun by The Beatles.

Subkick was introduced in 1966 when recording the kick drums for The Beatles‘ song ‘Rain’. Thanks to its diameter, the microphone captures extremely low frequencies down to 50 Hz: perfect for mastering a balanced low end.

The microphone is actually a loudspeaker.

Technically, SubKick is a phase inversion converted loudspeaker. My microphone design employs a 6.5 inch JBL Control 5 series bass-midrange driver. For a comprehensive, dynamic performance and a solid, powerful bass response down to 50 Hz.

Eliminating vibrations for the perfect vibration.

SubKick hovers freely, protected from shock by its centered suspension. This eliminates vibrations otherwise transferred via microphone stands.

A microphone designed like a drum.

I’ve enclosed SubKick in a 10 x 4.5 inch birch shell and covered it with black Mesh Heads. The microphone can be mounted on the snare stand using a classic tom mount.

SubKick gives drummers perfection and freedom.

Equipped with a high quality Neutrik XLR Connector and solid output level, SubKick can be connected to microphone preamps without additional DI devices.
